The Old Mansfield High School
Location: E. Broad and Walnut Creek Drive
The Mansfield ISD has done a beautiful job of restoring their high school built in the 1920's. It was designed by Wiley G Clarkson and this is noted on a stone by the main entrance of the school. Also, it should be noted that there is a Masonic emblem on the stone with his name. This school building has served the Mansfield ISD for almost 90 years. It was the high school after it was built. When a larger high school was built, it became the jr. high school. When a larger jr high was built, it became an elementary school until larger elementary schools were added. It then sat vacant for a while. A far sighted school board restored the school and made it into their administration building in early 2000. The B&W photo was made for my grandfather in 1928 and was used in a portfolio he put together and published around 1929. This is an outstanding example of school construction from the 1920's and it will now live many years past the century mark with the care the Mansfield ISD has put into this piece of Mansfield's history. It's quite a thrill finding your family has had an active part in the history of a small town, and that the history is being kept alive and in good health by people who care about the history of a town in their school system.
