Marshall High School
Marshall ISD is another school District that Clarkson has designed schools for. He designed both a Marshall High School and a Marshall High School for Negros. The following history is from the Marshall ISD web site:
"............By 1923 another building change became necessary, so the old Marshall University building was torn down and replaced with a new building facing West Houston.
From 1924 until 1940, the high school remained in this building. In 1939, the building erected in 1911 was removed to make way for an addition to the campus. This new building, which faced College Street, served as the high school. The junior high remained in the old portion until the seventh and eighth grades moved out in 1964, providing more room for a growing high school..............."
Marshall High School for Negros.
After quite a bit of digging on Google, the following information on the High School for Negoes, Marshal, TX was located.
"........Pemberton High School, which was built in 1924 and served all black secondary students. Closed as a public school in 1988, the H. B. Pemberton High School Heritage Center is located in the Wiley-Pemberton Complex of Wiley College. The school is actually enclosed by another Wiley building, but the center houses the school history, yearbooks, original letters and diplomas, trophies and historical documents......"
Kahn Memorial Hospital
Originally opened in 1912, Clarkson designed an expansion of the hospital in 1930. The hospital has continue to grow and prosper, serving the residents of Marshall.
