Lancaster High School

422 S. Centre Avenue

Shelf 3 Job 309

From a history of the Lancaster School on the Lancaster ISD web site:

"After the new frame assembly hall burned in 1922, patrons became concerned about the safety of the buildings. On June 17, 1922, a bond election raised the tax rate to $1 and with a vote of 65-15. The funds to renovate the old W. L. White building were approved for $10,000. A second bond was approved on August 21, 1922 for $50,000 to build a new high school. The vote was 95-7 with the tax rate increased to $1.05. W. G. Clarkson was the architect. A lot of discussion was held about the location and finally it was agreed to build it just south of the W. L. White building. The building, completed in 1923,15 currently serves as the school administration building with renovations done by the vote of citizens in 2004."

The original high school building has been renovated and restored and is now serving at the  Lancaster ISD Administration building.
